Bowls, Spoons, Bread And Spinning Top

“And the Evil One came and said to him, If you are the Son of God, give the word for these stones to become bread. But he made answer and said, It is in the Writings, Bread is not man’s only need.” When I read this passage from the Gospel of Matthew, I can’t help but feel a deep sadness wash over me. It's because I've seen the ones who can turn stones into bread, and the ones who follow them like docile sheep, grateful for every crumb they receive. Those followers lose themselves in their pursuit of the bread, always afraid that their master will take it away. But eventually, they will see the bread in their hands turn back into stone, and they will suffer, cry, and fall to their knees, begging their master to accept anything they have, just to get that little bite of bread.

Why do people refuse to accept the suffering that is rightfully theirs? Why is man so unwilling to take responsibility for his own destiny? Do people truly live just to wait, to depend, to want? People give up their freedom for the illusion of security, without realising that the safest place is often a prison. This is how the wicked manipulate those who wait patiently with a bowl and spoon, turning them into spinning tops that never cease to turn. Even when they grow old and sick, they keep spinning like a top until they can no longer do so. And then the bread they once held in their hands turns back into stone. The spinning top that can no longer spin is simply thrown away, forgotten and abandoned."
